Project Overview: 2011 Police Interceptor
UPDATED DEC 29, 2022
ABSTRACT
Updates to the 1992-2011 Police Interceptor project. Currently, the base model is being made as a 2011 Police Interceptor, with the earlier years being added incrementally after the initial release.
WHEEL TEXTURING
The latest development regarding the base is the modeling and texturing of the 17 inch steel wheels that came stock on the 2006-2011 Police Interceptors.
These rims and tires are being textured with quality and optimization in mind, using texture sheets and UV "stretching" to convert straight tire textures to rounded mapping. This not only allows for more efficient use of texture space but also consistent rendering of small details. Turning square pixels into round tires just doesn't make sense!
WHEEL MODELING
Updated modeling techniques such as dynamic topology density allow for the outer, more noticeable parts of the rim to be higher poly while smaller, less noticeable parts of the rim near the center are lower poly. This allows these wheels to be rounder than their predecessors while also having a lower triangle count.
UNDERBODY & ENGINE
This car is being modeled with an entirely accurate underbody and engine bay. 1998-2011 header panel pictured. With smaller details like these it is essential to balance detail and poly count.
INTERIOR
The interior of this base model has been modeled with accuracy as the number one priority. The interior has been designed in such a way that simple texture swaps allow for incredible customization such as:
- Carpet/Rubberized flooring
- Carpet Color
- Primary Interior Color
- Secondary Dash/Steering Wheel color
- Vinyl/Cloth Seats
EXTERIOR
Real-life access has allowed for incredible attention to detail and photorealism. Orthographic photography has allowed for traceable "blueprints" of many difficult parts of the car to be created for unrivaled accuracy. Learn more about this process here:
