The Process: 2011 Police Interceptor
PUBLISHED DEC 27, 2022
ABSTRACT
Discussing the creative processes and experiences of the 2011 Police Interceptor Project.
INTERIOR
The interior of the Police Interceptor has involved the most research of any aspect of a project so far, with the information used to model the final interior coming from several real-life Police Interceptors of varying years.
Pictured on the right is the 2005 Police Interceptor that we stripped the entire interior out of for my 2008, giving me an entire spare interior to use for reference photograpy.

ORTHOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHY
The concept of orthographic photography essentially boils down to the use of extremely long focal length camera lenses to take head-on traceable photos of objects. The long focal length of the lens serves to "flatten" the object much like the orthographic mode in Blender does, allowing you to capture an accurate silhouette of the object and trace it.
This method has been used several times in the Police Interceptor project so far:
- Entire car silhouette (pictured left)
- 2006-2011 Rims and tires
- 2003-2005 Rims and tires
- 2005-2011 Steering wheel
- 2001-2011 Honeycomb grille
- 1998-2011 Chrome slatted grille
- 1998-2011 Tail light and reverse light emissives
- 2003-2011 Interior textures
- 1992-2011 Front doors
